However, for these goals to be realized optimally, it is important that the patients and their attendants have clear expectations of their roles and responsibilities. This insight together with compliance with medical advices guarantees a smooth and successful recovery process.

Patient Responsibilities
  • Correct Medical Information - Each patient is expected to furnish full medical history about any known ailments, allergies, drugs currently in use together with previous treatments. The following helps the medical team take informed decisions on appropriate treatments to offer the patients.

  • Patients should not disagree with their medical team’s instructions on how they should go about with the treatment process. This includes compliance to all medical direction recommended by the physician in terms of use of medicines, physical exercise, and change of behavior. Failure to adhere to these measures may slow the treatment proceeding and outcome.
  • Attend Scheduled Appointments - A follow up visit is extremely important to check on the patient and ensure that there are no complications arising in the future. This means that patients must honor all the appointments provided to them.
  • Respect Clinic Policies - Patients are supposed to adhere to clinic rules on visitation, smoking and noise.
  • Provide Feedback - Information sharing is encouraged for the purpose of analyzing service quality and deciding on improvements. When patients have concerns of when they are feeling uncomfortable they should come out and report to the medical team so that they can address the issue.
  • Learn Potential Adverse Effects of Treatment- The patient should be advised on the likely consequences of the treatment that is to be undertaken.
  • Patients should respect the rights of all staff members, and of other patients. Inappropriate behavior will never be accepted and can lead to termination of services.
Attendant Responsibilities
  • Provide Support and Comfort - They need to ensure the patient receive health, physiological and emotional support.
  • Keep Compliance Medical Orders - They are supposed to monitor whether the patient is putting into practice the doctor’s instructions, taking his/her medications when due and following the recommended rate of recovery.
  • Assist in Communication - The attendants should assist the patients to grasp any medical advices and results given by the health care team where the patient might have language disability or low understanding capacity due to diseases.
  • Update the Medical Team - They are supposed to report any new development that may include change in patients’ health, side effects as well as changes in behavior.
  • Patients may require help to fill various forms, claims or consent to receive care and treatment forms that may be provided. They should make certain that all details are correct, and that everything is filed as soon as possible.
  • Patient Comfort and Patient Safety - The attendants are supposed to make the patient comfortable and safe all through.
